Drama
& Improv
Theatre
is universal. Every culture uses performance to share
ideas with, pass along folklore to, and educate an
audience. But theatre is also a powerful means of
communication and expression for the actors. TRIAD's
performing arts facilitators bring their years of
experience on stage and behind the scenes to empower
communities. By training local performers and working
with them to create their own performance pieces,
TRIAD helps community-based theatre groups reach out
to schools and after-school programs for vulnerable
kids.
WRITING & PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP FOR ACTORS
TRIAD's
professional actors, writers, and directors spend
time learning about traditions and community needs
before even meeting with the aspiring performers.
From warm-ups to curtains down, we work with local drama groups to help them create cultural and educational perforamces for vulnerable children, members of the community, and tourists alike. The income generated by performing for tourists funds the HIV/AIDSeducation and outreach programs at schools, churches, and festivals. By weaving traditional and modern themes, audiences learn about local culture and HIV/AIDS in soaring musicals and hilarious comedies.
CHILDREN'S WORKSHOPS
TRIAD's
acting and improv workshops for orphans and vulnerable
children give kids a chance to express themselves
in safe, open forums. The daily challenges these children
face often don't leave them much opportunity to share
their feelings. TRIAD trains the adult drama teams
to work with the vulnerable children in after-school
groups. We emphasize encouraging expression and listening
skills, and team up with local social workers who
can support the emotional needs of these kids as they
delve into difficult areas. Improv comedy skills teach
children to take safe, calculated risks. They often
teach our facilitators that in spite of the hardships
they endure, laughter is a powerful salve!
